Polished aluminum
The positive impact of polished surface of aluminum profiles in addition to preventing formation protuberances reflected in the improvement of machined surface roughness. Polished surface shows in comparison with unglazed lower roughness (Ra = 0.05 M) and lower coefficient of friction. Leads to improved chip evacuation, and improves the quality of surface profiles and increases the dimensional accuracy of aluminum profiles.
Smooth and clean surface of aluminum profiles is not only welcome an optical effect, but in some sectors, especially the technical necessity. Production of surfaces with low surface roughness is usually associated with higher production costs. The main reason is to reduce the shift to achieve low surface roughness, with the related but more time for processing. Profiles with micro polished surface permit the smooth surfaces and cutting-edge design chrome effect.
Chemical polishing of aluminum:
orthophosphoric acid (phosphoric) (H3PO4)
- Production – combustion of pulverized and melted phosphorus in the molten mixture of air and steam in stainless steel container: P4 + 5O2 + 6H2O, 4H3PO4 or a natural reaction of phosphate with sulfuric acid: Ca5 (PO4) 3F + 5H2SO4 + 10H2O? 3H3PO4 + 5CaSO4 • 2H2O + HF sulfate is filtered and HF are removed in the form of insoluble Na2SiF6
- form colorless crystals
- soluble in water
- normally 75 - 85%
- hemihydrate crystalline H3PO4 • 1/2H2O (91.6%)
- tribasic, moderately strong acid
Other use of orthophosphoric acid:
- surface-treatment (protection against rusting)
- base painted or enameled surfaces
- protection against blistering and chipping (body cars, refrigerators, washing machines)
- aluminum chemical polishing (to replace the decorative chrome plating parts cars)
Hand-polished aluminum:
The finish hand polished surface of aluminum profiles, the most commonly used hand tools Suhner, Fein and Bosch and 3M Abrasives, VSM, Rhodius, Klingspor and Lukas.
